Import—or Export—Your Audience Data Easily with Searchie

I love how Searchie responds to input from its users and continually adds features and improvements. I was one of a number of voices that asked Searchie for the ability to import customer information (like an email mailing list or list of users). The developers at Searchie came through! It’s now a snap to import customer data into Searchie and to export it as well. Let me tell you about how to do this as well as how doing this can serve you.

Import Audience Data into Searchie with Ease

Your email marketing service or database software enables you to download a CSV (comma-separated values) file containing your audience information—most importantly, their emails. A CSV file is like a spreadsheet of information, and it allows data to easily transfer between applications.

In your Searchie “Audiences” page, simply select “Import People” and then select “CSV Upload.” Alternatively, you can drag and drop your CSV file into the Searchie uploader.

Searchie’s uploader will next lead you through three steps to let it know what to do with this new information. First, it’ll ask you what Audience Tags to apply to this group of users as well as which Hubs they should have access to. You can also select to send a Hub welcome email to all members of this group. The email notification is one many miss—it’s the box in the corner off to the side:

Next, you need to make sure that the fields in Searchie line up with the order of the fields in your CSV file. Open your CSV file in a spreadsheet program and take note of what data is in the first column, the second column, etc. This might be “First name,” “Last name,” “Email address,” or more. Searchie will ask you what fields to import, so select them in the same order as in your CSV file.

Then click “Next” and “Complete Import.” Once the “Import in progress” message disappears, your new group will be in your Audience page with all of the appropriate permissions. Congratulations, you did it!

Send Email Reminders —A Work-Around

Many of you would like to send reminder emails to your Searchie users. Perhaps you have a course module coming out. Or, you’d like to send a reminder to your participants or members. It doesn’t seem like there’s a way within Searchie, right? Export/Import to the rescue!

Using the import feature and the welcome email, “fake” the system. Change up the welcome email to whatever you’d like to say in your email.

Once you’re personalized the email, save it, preview and test it to make sure all looks good. Then, export (see below) and import your own users. First, export them to a csv. Then, import them again, this time, as I showed above, using the email notification feature…voila, you’ve just sent an email reminder!

Note: if you decide to bring on new members or open your course up again, you’ll want to make sure you change that email back to the welcome email! 😉😉

Searchie Lets You Pull Audience Data, Too

What if you want to pull out some audience data from Searchie, for analytical or other purposes? No problem!

First, you need to tell Searchie which users’ data you want to pull. If you select their audience profiles by clicking the “Bulk Action” box, you’ll pull all audience members who fit that parameter. Want to pull all your users’ data? Easy: Just go to your “Audiences” page and click “export people” without selecting any specific groups of users.

Next, you need to tell Searchie what data to pull. Create a name for this export, and then select exactly which fields you want to pull. After you’ve made all of your selections, hit “Confirm.”

After the export is completed, head over to your “Audiences” page and find the “Exports” subpage. There you’ll find the export you just completed, ready for your use!

Pull by Segment

If you have created audience segments, you can also export those! Go to your segment, then select “export people”. As explained above, name your export and select the fields you’d like exported. Confirm the export and when it’s done, you’ll find it in the “Exports” subpage.

I’ve set up segments for fast action bonuses, each of my courses, my membership, and more! If you haven’t played with segmentation yet, make sure to—it’s really cool and a great feature.

How This Helps You

It’s so helpful to be able to add users via a CSV import! Here’s a list of potential uses:

  • Import a waitlist from an email marketing platform

  • Import a list of users from another course platform

  • Import a list of members from a payment platform

  • Import a list to send an email reminder to your participants

  • Export users to your email marketing platform to email them exciting news about your course or membership

  • Export users to a social media platform for ads marketing

Thank you, Searchie team for listening to our feedback and making the user experience even better!
