6 Reasons Why An Online Course Should Be Your Next Offering

Have you considered creating an online course to monetize the knowledge that you share on a regular basis? Think about it: You have unique knowledge to share that can help a lot of people while making you money while you sleep. And a course can be a springboard to more new offerings, such as a membership.

Here are just 6 of the many reasons why you should make your next offering an online course:

  1. Your Clients Want to Learn from You

Before you say, “Oh, who’d want to take a course from me?” consider the knowledge you’re already sharing with your audience. Are you offering free tutorials? Do you have people sliding into your DMs asking for advice? Do you have some unique insights or creative methods that are different from your competition’s? What do people ask you for advice about over and over again?

All of these are signs that your audience would welcome a course. And it doesn’t have to be an epic, intensive course—In fact, it's better if it's not! People consume content better in bite-sized doses.

The Searchie team did a recent study that showed videos less than 7 minutes in length had a 90% retention rate! Holy cow! If that isn't a reason to create content that is short and sweet, I don't know what is. :)

Perhaps you could begin with a mini-course that packs some very specific and valuable content. Creating and launching this course would be a great learning experience for you and the course can later be bundled with other courses that you develop.

2. Passive Income is an Entrepreneur’s Best Friend

Yes, you’ll put effort and time into creating and launching your course. But when you establish systems and gain momentum, your course (even a mini-course) can be a steady money-maker for you long after your initial efforts are over. And all the while, you’re creating an audience pipeline for future courses!

3. A Course Establishes You as an Expert

As an entrepreneur, you seek to plant your flag in your marketplace and be a respected leader in your field. Creating a course establishes you as a source of knowledge and an expert in your field. If you don’t feel like an expert, see item #1 above and realize that you do have a unique contribution to share.

4. A Course is a Lower-Ticket Offering that will Expand Your Reach

Not all of your audience members can afford to hire you for one-on-one services. By offering an online course, you provide these prospects with an affordable way to benefit from your expertise. And the course will further them along the know-like-trust continuum, making them more open to all of your offerings in the future.

5. Online Learning is Mainstream

Online learning has become mainstream—and in fact, many busy adults prefer to learn in this manner, taking in course content where and when it’s convenient for them. Most adults have had experiences with online learning, so the “trust factor” and learning curve are not the hurdles they once were.

6. Creating an Online Course Has Never Been Easier

With tools like Searchie, it’s a snap to create an online course. I’ve written before about how you can create a course quickly and scrappily using Searchie. You can get fancy with assessments, many modules, PDF handouts, and live sessions—or you can keep it simple by recording yourself on your computer and sharing a Canva slide deck.
