5 Ways to Get More Email Signups with Squarespace

Your Squarespace website can help you build your email mailing list. Read on to learn how!

Squarespace Has Features That Help Build Your List

1) Use the Announcement Bar

You can create a call to action promoting your email list in the announcement bar, shown at the top of your website pages. Visitors can click this bar and be taken to the form where they’ll join your list. Color the bar with one of your brand colors, and choose wording that is a strong call to action.

2) Turn Blog Readers into Email Subscribers

If you have a blog, use the blog editor to set up a newsletter signup box that will pop up next to blog posts.

3) Create a Promotional Pop Up

In Squarespace Business and Commerce plans, you can create a custom pop up to entice your visitors to join your email list. You can tailor it in many ways, such as:

  • Add a photo and choose fonts and other visual components

  • Decide which pages it will appear on

  • Determine when it will pop up, including passive triggers (such as when a visitor has been on the page for 10 seconds), active triggers (for example, when the visitor scrolls 25% down the page), or a combination of both

  • Set the frequency, such as only on the first visit to the site and never again for those who have already completed the signup. Make it so they see the pop up only once so they don’t feel harrassed, but maintain the announcement bar option in case they want to join the list after getting to know you better.

4) Lure Email Subscribers with Valuable Opt-in Content Downloads

One option is to create a value-packed download to use as an opt-in: In order to receive the download, the viewer must provide you with their email address. Win-win! They receive some value and deepen their relationship with you, and you have a new address for your email list.

Some people will take the opt-in and immediately unsubscribe from your list, but don’t be deterred. Opt-ins can be a great way to build your list and gain true followers.

5) Give Them a Sneak Peak of Your Newsletter

If you deliver email newsletters that are entertaining, value-packed, and interesting to your audience, show an example to your prospective subscriber! You could have a link to a sample, displaying one of your past newsletters. This can overcome the prospect’s fear of subscribing to a newsletter that they don’t care for.

You can also simply tell them more about your newsletter: how often you publish it, what kind of content it contains, and more. The more information you provide, the better able you’ll be to attract long-term subscribers.
