Playlists Have Changed in Searchie 2.0

I recently told you all about the exciting new features of Searchie 2.0. I want to dive deeper into a fundamental change that Searchie has made with one of its core features: playlists. If your stomach just flipped at the idea of a big change, take heart: this change makes sense and is no big deal for the user. Trust me!

There are Two Kinds of Searchie Playlists Now

In Searchie 2.0, you can create Library Playlists or Hub playlists. While both are similar in their general features, there are a few key differences. The difference between the two comes down to this:

Hub playlists reside within the Hub and are not made to share outside the Hub. They may include attachments like PDFs. Because a Hub playlist is specifically made for the Hub, there is no “share” option (it’s not made to be shared; rather, it’s exclusively for your Hub members).

Library playlists are created and stored in the Library tab. There is a “share” option for these playlists, allowing you to embed the playlist elsewhere or send a link to someone so they can watch the playlist. There are also privacy settings for these playlists (for Hub playlists, their privacy is controlled by the Hub’s overarching privacy settings). Note that because of the methods of sharing Library playlists, they can’t include attachments like PDFs.

When Do I Use Which Kind of Playlist?

First, keep in mind that both kinds of playlists all draw their content from the same “bucket” of Searchie uploads—that’s in your Folder/s. Always remember: one piece of content can be in a multitude of playlists!

If you have a Hub and you want to create a playlist of all of the live Q&A calls you do with the members of that Hub, it makes sense to create a Hub playlist for that. Nobody else outside of that group needs to see that playlist.

Do you want to include attachments, such as a PDF? Then a Hub playlist will allow you to do that and have it be part of the playlist.

Is the playlist something that will be used for multiple Hubs, prospective clients, or even your staff? Then it ought to be a Library playlist. If you want to be able to embed the playlist or share it using a link, then it needs to be a Library playlist.

This Change Paves the Way for Future Growth

We all can be resistant to change, and you may be grumbling about Searchie making this change. And yet, it makes a lot of sense, and it paves the way for future improvements. For example, you will be able to do scheduling in Hub playlists, which will be perfect for dripping content.

I’m up and running on using these two types of playlists in Searchie 2.0, and it’s been smooth sailing. How about you? I’d love to hear about your experience.
