Making the Transfer from Teachable to Searchie
Many consultants, coaches, and knowledge industry entrepreneurs like you have made the switch—or are pondering a switch—from Teachable to Searchie for their online courses and membership. Who could blame them! Searchie is more appealing in many ways, from pricing to ease of use to the many ways it allows you to slice and dice your content, truly maximizing the content you’ve spent precious time creating.
I’d like to offer a piece of advice for transferring your course or membership from Teachable into a Searchie course, Searchie membership Hub, or Searchie coaching program and answer a few common questions that people ask me about this.
Start with a Solid Plan
The most important step in transferring your online offerings into Searchie courses, Searchie membership Hub, or Searchie coaching program is to consider exactly how you want the content to appear and flow inside of Searchie. Make a detailed Hub plan! Searchie gives you much more freedom and flexibility than Teachable, but with great power comes great responsibility—to create a clear and satisfying client experience for your Searchie Hub clients and members.
Draw up your Hub plan and spend some time imagining the client or member experience as they interact with the Hub. Are they going down a lot of dead ends? Is navigation clear so they can return to the learning path? I always say that this step is the most important one and it pays to spend a lot of time finessing the Hub plan before implementing it. The implementation is surprisingly quick compared to this planning and thought work!
Common Question 1: What Kind of Analytics Does Searchie Provide?
If you have Searchie Pro level or higher, you’ll be able to create audience attributes to collect specific information about the audience using your Searchie Hub (note: this only applies to private Hubs, such as Searchie courses, Searchie membership Hubs, and Searchie coaching programs). This data is collected during the onboarding process, and you can select data in numerous formats: text, numeric, date, true/false, and multiple choice.
With these audience attributes, you can gain all the relevant data you want about the people you are serving with your Searchie Hub. Perhaps you’re collecting their age, their zip codes, their business or learning goals, their interests and experience level, the stage in the learning path that they are at, how long they’ve been in business—I could go on and on.
These audience attributes are not just for you to know more about your clients. Searchie allows you to use these attributes to present the client with tailored content that fits their needs.
Searchie Pro plan (or higher) also allows you to create audience segments. This can be useful for things like determining who has an incomplete registration or failed to complete their purchase, who has purchased multiple products from you (you need to be using Searchie’s Stripe integration for this; if you’re using Thrivecart or something else, you’ll need to set up a Zap to make that happen), and who is part of a specific cohort (this can be really handy when you run a Searchie course or Searchie coaching program multiple times a year). Simply set up the filters that determine the segment. You can then create upsell opportunities or abandoned cart messages for specific segments.
Searchie analytics also lets you see the viewing data for your content. This can provide useful data regarding popular/unpopular topics, progress along the success path, and more. Really helpful for determining what content to create next!
Common Question 2: Can My Searchie Hub Send Emails to Users?
The answer is yes, and it’s super easy to customize these emails! As long as you have a private Searchie Hub such as a Searchie course or Searchie membership Hub, you can create—and automate—emails such as welcome emails, magic links for Hub entry, and password reset emails. Once these are set up, these maintenance-type emails will take place automatically, freeing up your time and providing great service for your clients.
You will need an email marketing system to run your non-transactional emails…such as weekly newsletters, offers, welcome sequences, etc. I use and love ConvertKit for this.
Common Question 3: Can I Have Coupon Codes in Searchie?
Coupon codes are such a great way to entice prospects to take action right away. If you choose to go the route of using the Searchie Stripe integration for payment, you’ll need to have a Stripe account—this is required for any Hub that has paid access for clients, like Searchie courses. In your Stripe account, you can set up coupon codes. You’ll set the code, the discount associated with the code, and any time parameters for the code. You can set the code for specific products only if you’d like, and you can set the code to expire after a certain number of uses (such as the first 100 people get the discount and then it’s gone—talk about dialing up the heat!).
If you’re dealing with recurring payments (such as with a Searchie membership Hub), you can set the number of months that the discount will be active. For example you could have a coupon code that gives new members 20% off for the first three months. You won’t need to worry about keeping up with that; Searchie and Stripe will work together to bill the client properly.
One last thing you’ll need to do is to toggle on the coupons option in your Searchie Hub’s Payment & Registration menu.
