How to Create Custom User Experiences in Searchie

Do you have tons of content for your clients or members to enjoy? That’s great—but if you’re giving them a firehose of content you may be overwhelming them, and they may get frustrated by having to sift through lots of content to find what interests them.

There’s a clever way to help you improve your clients’ experience: quizzes and assessments. What’s the difference between quizzes and assessments? They are essentially the same sorting tool. The difference is mainly in the content: assessments tend to focus on the client’s ability or experience level, whereas quizzes are more about interests. Don’t get hung up on what to call it—what’s important is what it can do for you.

For example, let’s say your Hub provides exercise videos and nutrition lessons, as well as healthy recipes. You likely have a ton of videos! You can organize them in your Hub so that the user can find them, but you should also create an assessment to help users find only what they want.

Your assessment could ask about fitness level, whether the client is pregnant or postpartum, whether they have certain health conditions such as osteoporosis, and how much time they have to spend on exercise today. Because you will have used Searchie’s tagging feature on all of your content to tag each video with these metrics, the assessment can deliver the client a personalized selection of content that is just right for them.

Some of these clients may not be interested in fitness content at all, but rather they are coming to your Hub looking for nutrition information. A quiz can determine whether they’re looking for lessons or recipes, what dietary restrictions they may have, and whether they have any health conditions (pregnancy, diabetes, etc.). Rather than searching through all of your great nutritional content, they’ll see only the content that fits their needs—quick satisfaction like that makes for a happy client!

Your assessment can lead your user into a specific learning path that is tailored to their experience level. Serving the clients’ needs—that’s what it’s all about!

Have you used quizzes or assessments to tailor your content? Or, do you have plans to? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
