How to Add Gamification to Searchie Using VideoAsk
We love games, don’t we? I love the mini-thrill of getting the questions right on my new language app, Duolingo. The gamification of that app—the way it keeps urging you on by offering stats, challenges, and a feeling of competition—keeps me playing and learning. I’ve now got almost a month-long streak going and I’m determined to keep that baby going! Duolingo said they have over a MILLION users with a streak of a year or longer. Holy cow! I want to be in that crowd! What motivation to keep going.
What do games and language learning have to do with each other? Nothing, but gamification has a real impact on motivation and retention.
Likewise, you can create a more engaging and motivating online course or membership. The Searchie team is developing gamification for the system as we speak. So, what can you do to add gamification to it now? After all, Searchie is an amazing platform; it would be a shame to bypass it because one aspect is still coming down the pike!
While there are a few ways to go about this, today I’ll focus on one easy way: Using VideoAsk. (BTW, VideoAsk is having a sale from June 20th-24th, where you’ll save 20% on 1-year Grow annual plans and 25% on 1-year Brand annual plans!).
Send Them on a Treasure Hunt
You can place links and buttons in hidden spots throughout your Searchie Hub for your participants to stumble upon. When they open the link, they’ll see a VideoAsk video from you that congratulates them and asks them a question about the lesson they’ve entered. They simply reply via VideoAsk to gain a point.
VideoAsk allows you to use conditional logic, which means that you can create unique experiences for your participants. Here’s an example: Let’s say you create a VideoAsk at the end of a module and ask the participants a question with three potential answers. Depending on which answer they select, they’ll be taken to a different video reply from you.
You can use VideoAsk in this way to learn more about the experience that your users are having and how the content is impacting them.
We All Love Getting Badges and Trophies
Peloton taps into our thirst for competition and achievement. They provide awards and badges based on the number of workouts the user completes. This makes the experience even more rewarding and allows users to feel that they’ve achieved a higher status.
You can easily create a badge or trophy in Canva that the participant receives when they achieve various milestones in your Searchie program. A big part of gamification is issuing a challenge and then providing a reward when the challenge is achieved. The larger the challenge, the greater the reward.
You can use VideoAsk logic to reward them with a certificate upon completion…when they answer the question to your liking, send them to the link for the Canva certificate.
Gamification Keeps Them Coming Back
Tap into our human nature by taking the time to infuse your program with gamification. It will not negatively impact those who don’t care about gamification and are just there for the learning, but it will have a very positive impact on those who find gamification very exciting and motivating!
What resonates most with you? What will you try first?
I’d love to hear in the comments.
